The historical foundation of the Baphomet rests in the protocols produced during the Templar process. One of the indictments in the trial against the Templars of 1307 was that the order brothers would "worship an idol". During the different procedures of the process, only a few witnessed such worship. The descriptions vary. In the prosecutions, for example, there is talk of an "idol as a head with a beard," which the Templars supposedly paid homage. However, neither evidence of actual worship nor an existing idol image of Baphomet was found. The statements in the protocols diverge in such a way that it is not yet possible to draw a proof of the existence and shape of the Baphomet. In addition, these statements were often enforced under torture.
